Q: Is there a minimum period sign-up commitment?

A: No minimum. Once we’ve worked together for a month, you should find me a good fit and I’ll continue coaching you through this season. Most athletes who aren’t ready to keep going through the season, or would like a different coaching approach, usually move on after the initial month. And I’m fine with that.

Q: How do I set up a TrainingPeaks Account?

A: If you’re new to TrainingPeaks (or even if you’ve already got a free or paid account there), the easiest method is to let me email you a link to my own TrainingPeaks Coach Account. Using that link, TrainingPeaks will walk you through setting up a new Athlete account and linking me as your Personal Coach in TrainingPeaks. Send me a message, and I’ll forward your link: Contact Kevin

Q: I don’t want to mess around with uploading my training files to my TrainingPeaks Athlete Account. Is there a way to Autosync?

A: Absolutely! With Garmin recording devices, it’s easy to configure Garmin Connect to automatically push your completed workouts into your TrainingPeaks Athlete account. They’ll show up on the correct day, and will auto-attach to your workout(s) on that day, in the order they appear in your TrainingPeaks calendar.

Using a Wahoo recording device? Again the connection to TrainingPeaks is straightforward.

Q: How do I set HR and Power Zones on my Garmin Device?

The easiest method is to use your Garmin Connect account on a desktop computer.

Through your Garmin Connect website profile (not mobile – you can’t change zone settings through the mobile app at this time) version of your account (connect.garmin.com), select any one of the Garmin devices associated with your account (top right corner, watch-type symbol next to your Account Profile picture).

From there select “Device Settings” for any one of your sync’d devices. Then select “User Settings” where all of your Personal Information and Zone settings are found.

Review all the data, and change any/all of your Zone information as needed. Then, scroll to the bottom and “Save Settings”.

Everything in Garmin Connect is now saved, but you must take one last step to sync your new User Settings into all your Garmin devices. Connect your device (USB cable or Bluetooth/Ant+) and follow through the prompts from Garmin Connect to sync the device settings from the cloud to your device. Repeat the sync process for all the Garmin devices that you use.

Q: How do I set HR and Power Zones on my Wahoo Device?

Use the Wahoo Fitness App.

From the app home screen, select Settings or More [ ⋮ ].

Find and select Heart Rate Training. Then scroll to select Edit Heart Rate Zones.

Avoid using the Auto Calculate feature. It relies on knowing your Max HR, and that’s not easy to determine. The old “220 – your age” formula is extremely inaccurate for all but the most sedentary people. Let me guide you. I’ll give you specific zone values to enter manually.
